Tales of the Saints: a meeting with Zbigniew Mikołejko
Zbigniew Mikołejko is a historian and philosopher of religion at the PAN Institute of Philosophy and Sociology Warsaw. He is the author of books and articles published in Gazeta Wyborcza, Polityka, Rzeczpospolita and Tygodnik Powszechny. His book Żywoty świętych poprawione (The Lives of Saints Amended) has been reprinted three times. Who are the Polish saints and what do they tell us about Polish people? How do they differ from the saints of other nations and civilization circles? And who are the saints of the modern world?
The meeting is accompanied by a staged reading of excerpts from The Lives of Saints Amended Again directed by Marcin Zbyszyński. The book examines the history of the Polish Church, providing a vivid and emotional depiction of its affairs and members. The author does not aspire to academic objectivity, and creates an image which, in his own words, 'can somehow reside within us like a slightly unwelcome guest who does, however, bring some interesting tales from the road he has travelled'.
